Tafeem’s story
Age 27
Tafeem’s path was marked by Covid as many young people’s. She was in employment, but due to the pandemic she lost her job. When things started to ease up, she struggled to get a job, because she lost her confidence and as a result, she wasn’t sure what exactly she needed support with- CV tips, mock interviews or general support. Tafeem was lost.
She was looking for ways to get out of the state she was in. Tafeem then came across a Sport 4 Life ad on Social Media, which was designed in a way that grabbed Tafeem’s attention because she was looking for employment and ways to kickstart her career. Tafeem was particularly interested in the tailored mentoring support that we offer because she needed this extra push to unlock her true potential.
Tafeem always wanted to find a place where she could receive bespoke support with interviews and someone to be regularly checking her CV. This was when her mentor- Izzy got in touch with her.
Tafeem joined our services in February, 2021.
“I did mock interviews with Sport 4 Life’s Employability Trainer, received valuable feedback on my progress and I realised where I was falling short”
Tafeem is a very hardworking and dedicated person
“My main aim was to go back to employment, and to have someone to look through my applications and support me with the whole process gave me reassurance and assured me I was on the right track”
Tafeem graduated in 2016 with an Education Studies degree from the University of Wolverhampton. Her huge passion is about supporting other young people in educational journeys and helping them become the best possible version of themselves.
“I LOVED MY ONE-TO-ONES WITH MY MENTOR, IT IS ALWAYS GREAT TO HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK TO, TO CATCH UP WITH AND IT WAS GREAT TO BE CHECKED ON. MY MENTOR PROVIDED LOTS OF VALUABLE ADVICE AND FEEDBACK”
Altruistic, empathetic and passionate, Tafeem was in the education field prior to Covid, but unfortunately she was unable to continue.
Tafeem has done volunteer work for differing charities, she’s very supportive and has helped with distributing food to those in need during the pandemic in her local community.
Thus, she needed someone to bring back that confidence to her and give her this extra push. She wasn’t in employment for a while due to the pandemic, she was confused with the whole employment process and getting back to it felt overwhelming at the time.
“My mentor was a great support, she was always there for me. Izzy is a fantastic mentor!” – Tafeem shares
Prior to Tafeem coming to Sport 4 Life she had stopped believing in herself when she didn’t get a job, but she has now gained a lot of confidence through doing the mock interviews.
A dream of Tafeem is to support more young people whose English is not their first language and support them throughout the process. She’d like to go to different countries and mentor young people at schools there.
